FMS May Newsletter
FMS May Newsletter 2008
In the March Newsletter we mentioned how crazy that month would be without a positive attitude. Because of all the activities going on at FMS, our outlook continues to be positive. May is here already and the activities just keep coming from all directions. So many things to do and so little time left in the school year.
The sights and sounds that occurred in April included great concerts and art work. The FMS students amazed the audience with their talent and expertise with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade jazz band concert on April 8th. On April 12th and 13th, FMS hosted our annual art show. All FMS students had art work on display, thanks to the extra effort of Mr. Greg Holland, who made it all possible. Our Fine Arts Department at FMS continues to perform at very high levels. What a GREAT month for fine arts!
During the month of April, close to 300 students participated in a pizza party for continued use of their assignment journals. We appreciate parents helping FMS staff hold our students accountable for assignments and helping students to keep developing good study habits. Thank you for your support!
The month of May continues with many events and rewards taking place. On May 12th, you can enjoy listening to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade vocal students performing in a concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. May 15th will give you a chance to enjoy listening to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands at their Band Concert, beginning at 7:00 p.m. May 16th will be an exciting day for the 8th graders as they tour the Fairfield High School in preparation for next year. On May 20th, we will host our 7th grade Pen Pal Party to bring together students and adults who have been corresponding with each other throughout the school year. Our-end-of-the-year assignment journal reward trips are planned for the following dates: 6th grade, May 22nd; 7th grade, May 27th; 8th grade, May 29th. More information concerning where and when will be sent home soon.
This summer, ResCare will be
offering a program for children who are coping with emotional,
behavioral, or life challenges. To be eligible, children must have
Title XIX
funding. The group will meet 2 days per week, 1 1/2 hours per day
from June through August. ResCare will provide transportation and a
nutritious snack. For more information, please contact Tracey
Liptak at 472-5771, or speak with one of school
counselors.
The last day of school will be June 5th, 2008 with a 2:15 dismissal. Please keep in mind that all student consequences for discipline issues will be doubled beginning May 12th.
As a follow up to the Jim Jelinski assembly on bullying, our counselors conducted a quick survey of our 7th grade students to find out if mean things were being said or done at FMS and, if so, where these things were happening. The results of the survey are being used to help determine a course of action to address bullying at FMS.
Parents, please use the enclosed fact sheet on bullying as a starting point to discuss this issue with your students. If concerns come up, please call our school counselors. We want FMS to be a place where all students feel safe and want to attend. This is more likely to happen if we are all working together to achieve this goal. Thank you for your help in this matter.
One last request from our secretaries who are updating records. Please notify the school if you have had a change of address or phone number. They thank you for your help.
Let’s end the year with positive attitudes because working with FMS students is the BEST way to stay positive.
Have a GREAT SUMMER!!
