Band and Choir at Fairfield High School

by Amy Goehring

The Fairfield High School has many programs and activities for student’s participation.

Those that can earn academic credit are band and choir. Since you are required to have one arts credit to graduate you can participate in one of these all four years to get that credit.

Mr. Jim Edgeton and Mr. Micah Peck Conduct the bands and help out with the technical aspects.

Mrs. Linda Mitcheltree and Mrs. Connie Keller are in charge of conducting the many different types of choirs.

Band and Choir students have many different performances they are required to be at and some that are optional. Some that are required are the Winter Concert, Pops Concert, Spring Concert, and Large Group contest.

Each concert has its own type of songs performed and each one is unique for extra traditions such as the “Hallelujah Chorus” for the 10-12 choirs.

For freshman, they will have their concerts at different times than the 10-12 students. Usually after the upper classmen, but they will still be doing similar types of songs.

During each performance different mini bands and choirs such as Jazz Band and Show Choir along with the big bands and choirs; pleasure the audience with different types of music.

All songs are worked on diligently by the students and each piece is picked to teach student something new such as counting in different time signatures.

The public is always welcome, so if you have not been to one of these concerts or your children have already graduated, please consider returning.
