Fairfield, Iowa was named one of the “12 Great Places you’ve Never Heard Of” by "Mother Earth News" magazine.
"Mother Earth News" chose twelve towns across the United States for the list based on the abundance of art galleries, large number of restaurants per capita, and the amount of organic goods produced. All of these factors helped gain Fairfield a spot on the list.
Along the downtown square sits over twenty five art galleries, a reflection of the importance of art in Fairfield. Every first Friday of the month an Art Walk is on the square. Galleries open their doors and allow the many visitors to view work displayed from various local to well known artists. Attracting a large number of visitors, art in Fairfield sets it apart from other towns in Iowa.
Per capita Fairfield boasts more restaurants than San Francisco. A reflection of the town’s multicultural roots lies within the many different cuisines one can choose. Along with many restaurants, many entrepreneur’s have many small businesses around town allowing citizens to purchase most necessities locally.
Healthy eating is another trait Fairfield boasts. Holding the number one spot in Iowa for acres of organic produce grown, health conscious visitors will be easily comforted. Organic foods can be purchased at health food stores or the local grocery store.
Boasting a large array of local activities, exciting cuisine, and captivating arts, one may never find a lack of interesting things to do in southeastern Fairfield, Iowa.
