Changes made to school calendar
January 29, 2010
As of January 29th, the Fairfield Community School District has cancelled school seven (7) days due to inclement weather. This would require the end of school to be extended to Monday, June 14, 2010 for the last day of student attendance and Tuesday, June 15, 2010 for the teachers’ workday.
The following alternative will be recommended to the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors at their next regular board meeting, February 8, 2010, 7:00 p.m., in the Fairfield High School Commons.
- Change Friday, February 19, 2010 from a no-school day to a student attendance day.
- Change Friday, April 30, 2010 from a non-student attendance/professional development day to a student attendance day. Professional development for the certified staff would shift to Saturday, May 8, 2010.
- Request that the Parent-Teacher Conference times on Tuesday, February 16, and Thursday, February 18, 2010 count as a student attendance day as allowed under the Iowa Code.
The actions above would move the final student attendance day to Wednesday, June 9, 2010 with a teachers’ workday on Thursday, June 10, 2010.

If two (2) days of school closures would occur on student attendance days yet this school year, the district would make up the first one on Thursday, June 10, 2010 and the second day missed on Friday, June 11th, 2010. This would result in the teachers’ workday moving to either Monday, June 14, 2010 or Saturday, June 12, 2010. (This decision will be made if the need arises.)
If more than two (2) days of school closures would occur on student attendance days yet this school year, the district would look to make up the additional days on Saturdays yet to be named. The district would consider any additional latitude being given by the Department of Education prior to making this decision.
Graduation for Seniors would remain as listed on the school calendar (Sunday, June 6, 2010). Seniors’ last day of attendance would be Thursday, June 3, 2010. Seniors would be expected to attend February 19th and April 30th but not be required to be in school Friday, June 4th or any of the make-up days the week of June 7th as allowed under the Iowa Code.
