Fairfield CSD Residents to Vote on Physical 

Plant & Equipment Levy March 5

FAIRFIELD, IOWA — Fairfield Community School District residents will vote Tuesday, March 5, 2024 on the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).

The PPEL is a voter-approved levy that generates funds a school district can only use for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements. The Fairfield School Board approved a resolution allowing the voted PPEL to appear on the ballot.

The district will use the funds for technology infrastructure improvements, roof repairs and replacements, school safety upgrades, HVAC system maintenance, and vehicle replacement, among other needs.

“Like many school districts across Iowa, we rely on PPEL funds to cover the costs associated with maintaining and repairing our buildings, facilities, and transportation fleet,” said Stephanie Mishler, Interim Superintendent. “We are asking our community to consider the PPEL on March 5, which will allow us to continue providing our students with a quality learning environment where they can fulfill their potential.”

If the measure is approved in March, the voted PPEL would be in place through 2036 at a rate of $1.34 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Fairfield CSD’s current voted PPEL of $0.67 will sunset in June 2026 without voter approval.

A discussion of the district’s tax levies with Matt Gillaspie of Piper Sandler will occur during the School Board’s regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16. The public is invited to attend the meeting at 403 S. 20th St., in Fairfield. The meeting will also be live-streamed on the district’s website at www.fairfieldsfuture.org.

Voters will need to show a valid ID before casting their ballot. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day. Voters can find their polling locations at https://sos.iowa.gov/elections.
