Today, there was a gas leak detected at Washington Elementary School this morning. The staff and students were safely and immediately evacuated from the building and then moved by bus to the high school. Alliant Energy came on site and helped to repair the leak and make sure the school was safe for staff and students to return. After returning to the school, classes resumed as normal. Dismissals at the end of the school day will operate as regularly planned.

8th graders are designing towers that would withstand an “earthquake” simulation this week. This involved collaboration with their team as they apply science concepts and critical thinking as they test their models. Some creative designs and thoughtful planning are happening 🗼Love these types of problem solving labs and hands on activities! #onefairfield

Special shout out to our AEA for helping with an ability awareness overview this week. Students in 8th grade were involved in a presentation discussing neurodiversity. This describes the idea that some people’s brains work different than others and may perceive and experience the world around them in different ways. The AEA discussed characteristics of ADHD, Autism, Smith Magenis, and Tourette’s while relating these to student experiences. Lana also presented and did a fantastic job! Our goal is to help students understand how to interact with all people. We need to understand one another. When we have a better understanding of each other, we can find commonalities and respect for one another rather than seeing our differences!

Special thanks to JCHC for taking time out of their day to provide some basic skills to some of our classes in health and PE. Students learned basic skills in how to help someone with a wound to stop the bleeding, an overview of CPR, and careers in the health field🩺👩‍⚕️We are so fortunate to have amazing people in our community to do these types of things with students. And a special thank you to our teachers who made this happen! Thank you! #onefairfield

FHS will be holding P/T conferences on Monday, February 6 from 12-3pm and 4-7pm. We will run an open house format, so you do not need to schedule a time to meet with a teacher unless you would like to. Teachers will be located in their individual classrooms. We hope to see you there. Our final P/T conference date will be on Tuesday, March 14.

To say I am proud of these three girls is an understatement. This past couple of months these three have led the way in organizing a newspaper team. They have done this all with their own leadership and skills. This is about finding your gifts and talents and following your passion. When I think what Leader in Me has done for our culture and students this is IT ❤️ Confidence to ask if they could put something like this together, and the leadership to organize the group and create something fantastic. I absolutely love this 📝✏️ This week they dove into live streaming our mid year assembly event. This group has organically grown and evolved into so much more than just writing a newspaper. These three have blossomed into amazing leaders and role models. We are proud of their work efforts, drive, and initiative to start something and see it through. Love this stuff! #onefairfield #leaderinme
