Meet Heidi Unkrich
FHS 9th grade English teacher
Heidi stated she does not usually do things backward, but after being a substitute and a long-term substitute several times over, she decided to teach full-time! Heidi also had a tutoring business and edited books while doing her favorite job: being a mom to her two sweet daughters, Audrey and Emily.
Teaching at Fairfield High School has been a great experience. Heidi loves sharing her passion for grammar and literature with her wonderful students. Heidi’s goal is to have her students love all things English as much as she does. Heidi tells them how important it is to speak well and write well, and they know that if they don’t do that, she will deny she ever knew them! Seriously, Heidi is very fond of these FHS students!
Heidi’s husband, Mark, who is from this area, and she moved here 2 ½ years ago after living in Winterset, Iowa, for 20 years. They like to bike, travel, and spend time with their family and friends. They also enjoy Zion Bible Church in Douds, where they are reminded of God’s goodness and grace. And when she has the opportunity, Heidi organizes and cleans; she is sort of a clean-freak minimalist. A colleague said, “I am in 2nd period English class, where she teaches a smaller class setting. She is awesome with these students and makes learning fun for them. She is so patient, kind, and soft-spoken. I was in a class with her in 1st trimester also and thought the same thing. She is able to do this and keep control of the class. She earns the respect of her students.”
Another colleague stated, “ I want to give a shout-out to Mrs. Unkrich 9th grade English. She has been doing an amazing job. She has made learning English easy and fun! The students are eager to answer questions and participate in class. Mrs. Unkrich also makes sure each student has the opportunity to answer and get up and show what is wrong in a sentence like they are the teacher. The smiles from the students show just how much Mrs. Unkrich has made a difference in each of the students in her class.
