The FHS Esports team will be one of the 16 teams in 2 divisions participating in the 2nd IAHSEA Face-To-Face State Tournament on Friday, March 3rd. Although it is the 3rd tournmant in association history, it is the second time that teams will travel and compete in the same location. The location for the tournament is the RecPlex in Des Moines, IA.
The FHS Rocket League team finished the season undefeated in their conference and were seeded in the 2nd position for the state tournament. Their play during the season also earned them a bye in the first round of playoffs and propelled them directly to the in-person event.
This is the third season for this group of athletes. The first year they participated, they made the state playoffs and lost in the semi-final match. Last year was year two. This was a tough year since three of the final four teams from the previous year were all in the same conference, and there was only a single division in the state. This meant that during conference play, the three biggest threats turned on each other before making the playoffs. Sadly, the Trojans just missed the playoffs. Eventually, the remaining two teams from the conference faced off in the championship match for the state.
This year even more teams were added to the title. The schools involved in Rocket League this year warranted two different divisions with three conferences in each. The top twelve teams in the division made the playoffs with the top four teams in conference play receiving the bye. This results in the top eight teams from each of the two divisions participating in the in-person tournament.
The Trojans will open their tournament vs. Clear Creek Amana, who they had faced in conference play. To win the state title, they will have to win three matches. If they defeat CCA, they will face off against the winner of Linn-Mar and Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The rest of the teams in the bracket feature some heavy hitters also which will make it a challenging road to the championship.
